The main benefit of the stationary bike is that you get the possibility to do a low-impact cardiovascular workout on your joints but as demanding as you want. You just have to adjust the resistance level. But you also have to adjust a stationary bike correctly. The training position is fundamental and very important. Here are some tips.

How to adjust a RECUMBENT bike

The position is correct when, with both feet on the pedals, one leg is almost fully extended and forms an angle of 5 to 10 degrees.

How to adjust a STATIONARY bike

Seat height

Stand beside the bike and check that the saddle is at the intersection of the femur and hip. Then, sit on the saddle and place your heels on the pedals. The appropriate seat height will be one that allows us to fully extend the knee. This will ensure that when we pedal with the middle of our foot, the knee is slightly flexed. For a more precise height check, after the initial measurement, we will raise the pedal to ensure that the knee is at the height of the hip joint or slightly below.

Handlebar adjustment

For optimal adjustment, it should be at the same height as the saddle. For beginners or people with physical problems (back pain, pregnancy), it is recommended to raise it above the saddle. As a general rule when adjusting a stationary bike, the handlebar should allow a comfortable arm position (not fully extended), a secure grip in different positions, and consequently, a "dynamic" overall position (at the torso and arms level).

Horizontal seat adjustment

Some machines allow it, others do not. In any case, always make sure that when the pedal is at 9 o'clock, the knee does not go past the tip of the toes.

Adjustment of the pedals

It is very important to adjust the foot straps properly. Adjust them so that the foot does not allow any play. Otherwise, you will overload with each pedal stroke, causing injuries in some cases.
